When it stops

The system quit. We don't wait for Monday to fix it.

A dead AC at 9pm in August is not a scheduling problem, it's a house that keeps climbing while you wait. The office runs seven days a week from 7am to 7pm and the emergency line runs through the night, so a Cypress breakdown gets a callout instead of a voicemail.

What actually fails on a Houston August afternoon

Most emergency calls trace back to a short list of parts, not a mystery. A run capacitor weakens in the heat and the compressor can't start. A contactor pits and sticks until the outdoor unit stops answering the thermostat at all. The condensate drain backs up, the float switch trips, and the system shuts itself off to keep from flooding the closet. Coils freeze over when airflow is restricted, usually a filter that hasn't been changed in longer than anyone wants to admit, and the house feels warmer with the unit running than with it off. A tripped breaker can be the whole problem, or it can be the first sign of a bigger one. We come out able to diagnose any of it on the truck, not guess and reschedule.

Three things worth checking before you call

Swap the thermostat batteries first, it's the cheapest fix there is. Check the breaker panel, a tripped double pole breaker for the outdoor unit is common and safe to reset once. Pull the filter and look at it in daylight, if you can't see through it, that alone can shut a system down. Walk outside and clear anything stacked against the condenser, mulch, a trash can, a fence panel, it needs open air on every side. Past that, leave the panel covers and the refrigerant lines alone. Opening an electrical panel or a sealed line set on a system that's already struggling is how a repair call turns into a replacement call.

After the callout

The same rule applies whether it's a capacitor or a full system.

You get the price before we touch anything, emergency call or not. If the fix is small, we tell you what it costs and do it. If the unit is old enough that a repair just delays the same failure, we lay out what a replacement would run alongside the repair number, and you decide which one makes sense for a Cypress summer. Same logic holds for a heating no-start in January, the calls are just rarer. See the full list on the services page.
